This morning I was looking at the websites of some friends and noticed that most of them hadn’t updated their sites for several weeks and was a bit bummed by this. While we are all Facebook friends and get updates that way and through phone calls, it is still nice reading what they want to share with the world at large. That’s when I looked at our website and realized we hadn’t updated our site in a while. So, “Hi Kettle, I’m Pot!”
One of the big bits of news is Damion two weeks post arthroscopic knee surgery to remove a torn meniscus. After the major kitchen work was completed he was complaining about his knee hurting but we both thought it was from all the crawling on the hard ground in the crawl space. Well it was still a problem a couple of days later so Damion saw his orthopedic surgeon. An MRI showed a torn meniscus that had signs of being torn and healing several times over its lifetime so the damage part needed to come out. Due to some scheduling confusions (wait not confusion, the doctor’s office gave us the wrong info for the surgery center) all of us dropped him off at 6:30 am. The kids and I got them the breakfast of their choosing (Jack got donuts, Anna cinnamon melts), went home to eat and get ready to take them to Ms. Heather’s house for the day and I went back to the surgery center. We left there after about noon, got some lunch, coffee and medicine and then tucked him into bed for the next three days. Fortunately my Mom came Friday night and basically took care of Anna & Jack for us on Saturday. It was great to spend time with her but also know that the kids were being taken care of while I ran errands myself. There were a couple of funny stories from the surgery center that I want to share. One involves Damion coming out of his anesthesia. He started to sing a nice loud rendition of the theme song to “Gilligan’s Island” and then proclaimed/insisted he calls a friend. So, being the wonderful person I am, I gave him the phone! He proceeded to call Justin and talk and sing the theme song again. It was all quite funny.
The other story is from before Damion’s surgery. There was a gentleman across the hall that had just come out of rotator cuff surgery. He was significant other and nurse was with him. He said, “Think I’ll be able to go huntin’ tomorrow?” The nurse responds with a stern, “NO!” The guy asked, “Why not?” And he was serious. He didn’t understand at that point why he couldn’t go hunting.
Oh, the best part of this whole thing is that a couple of days before the surgery we noticed Jack limping! We then recalled that he had slipped on the last step like Damion did sometime ago (remember a broken toe?) Since it had been several days of limping I took him to the doctor the day of Damion’s surgery. The doctor said it was a major strain. About three days later he was finally starting to work normally.
The other big news, we got some snow. And by some I mean like 14 inches. The problem is that snow drifts a lot in our front yard so in the driveway it measured about 23 inches! AND the snow came five days after Damion’s surgery. Out I went with shovel in hand to clean the driveway so we could maybe go somewhere before April. Yes, we have a snow blower but after watching the neighbors and their super big snow blowers having problems eating thru the snow, I opted to keep going with the shovel. I did about two thirds of the driveway in the amount of time it took the neighbors to do all of theirs. After naptime all of us headed back outside. The kids played and played and played while Damion used the snow blower and I used the shovel and we tag teamed the rest of the driveway and the sidewalk.
And MY personal favorite bit of news? The Packers won the Super Bowl! Great job and Congrats to them!!! Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
