We saw a glimpse of spring today. No it wasn’t a flower popping throw a pile of snow. No it wasn’t a robin, however I saw a cardinal the other day. So what did we see? We saw geese at the ponds by Country Financial! And then came the statement from Anna that “It isn’t too cold Mommy. We can go to the park!” I looked at the park as we drove by and realized I had my treat for her behaving at the mall.
At the mall we went up the escalators and Jack laughed. We went down the escalators and Jack laughed. We returned clothes to Old Navy where Jack went bonkers but Anna listened. I speed walked while Jack ran and Anna jogged to the Mrs. Fields cookie. Okay let’s stop here for a second. Yes, most parents would use cookies as a bribe. That was the goal Monday and yesterday but when I realized that we weren’t going to make it to the mall either day I promised Anna when we went to the mall again she’d get her cookie (I mean the girl has only wanted a cookie from the mall for two weeks now). So we got some Nibblers and bounce walked our way to the van where both kids were excited about the cookies but Anna started to make sure she had been good so we could go to the park.
The park is where I saw my glimpse of spring. Anna & Jack running around outside on the play equipment with only their jackets on. No boots. No gloves. Hoods but no hats. They ran and went down the slide and swung and all was good until Anna pushed a swing and it hit Jack’s temple. After some consoling he was off again. He found a rock that he proceed to carry around with him and that helped until he fell but Anna picked up the rock for him and he was good to go again.
I told them that we would not be going on a walk but Jack did not understand this because he took off. So we walked through the sloppy muddy drain off to the trail and walked on the snowy, slightly icey trail. The cute part was Jack yelling several times “D! D! D?” That would be what he calls Damion.
So, while we do enjoy our winters I think we are ready for a couple of more glimpses of spring and getting back to the great outdoors where our kids belong.
