It has been over a month since our last post here at damionandjess.com and the
lack of posting is not due to a lack of things to write about but more so due
to a lack of energy to write about them.
All three of us are doing well. Anna is growing and, according to her
doctor at her last visit in December she is "average" at 8 lbs 3 oz
and already 20 inches long. Based on the way her clothes are fitting, or
not fitting, she is longer than 20 inches now. For those who may be
interested, there is a new album under Anna's name that has several pictures
from December for you to view if you wish.
Since her birth we have only left Anna with a babysitter twice.
Her first sitter was Dawn, who watched Anna so Damion and I could go
purchase something quickly. Her second sitter was Ben (a.k.a. QaQa?
Maybe?), who watched her off and on Saturday while Damion was at Rob's house
and I was scrapbooking with Amy (a.k.a. Nana). These two people are
peoples that Damion and I know well and trust with our precious Anna. Imagine
all the emotions pouring through me when for the first time ever yesterday, we
took Anna to church and left her in the nursery! With strangers!
Nice ladies, but nonetheless, strangers! We were big people and handled
it okay. I think Damion did better than I did with this separation as I
teared up walking across the lobby to the sanctuary. I reassured myself that this action did not
make us bad parents.
At this particular church, when leaving a child in the nursery they take
your cell number and if there is a problem with your child they will call
you. Not too bad of a system. When we left Anna I was a little
hesitant as I sensed she would likely cry shortly after we left her because she
would be hungry and there wasn’t time to prepare a bottle before we left.
Well, part way through the service Damion checked to phone to make sure my
battery had not died (oops, guess it hasn't seen the charger in about a
week). It was still on and no missed calls. Upon seeing this, I asked,
"Why haven't they called us yet?" He just grinned and went back
to listening to Mr. Preacher Man.
Needless to say, right after the service I went right away to get
her. I learned from the Strangers that
she fell to sleep right after we left her and had only started to wake up near
the end of the service. I was happy to
hear there were no problems, but also happy that the whole hour of separation was
over. Hopefully it will get better as
each week progresses.
Finally, most of you will be pleased to know that on Sunday I didn’t stop
Damion from teaching Anna to cheer on the Bears and I will help her cheer them
on next week against the Saints and then in the Super Bowl if they make it. But rest assured, when next session starts,
she will be say “Yeah Packers!” and not “Yeah Bears!”
