Proof I Am Not in DC Any More PDF Print E-mail

Today I was taking Vroom Vroom to the dealership for its 15,000 mile service.  To do this I have to travel on Veterans Parkway.  For those not familiar with Veterans, it is 6 lanes of traffic (3 each way) with stop lights and I would guesstimate the average speed is 40-50 mph.  Basically, a nice road to travel on.  While driving I noticed traffic in the right two lanes where slowing.  Why?  Because there was a combine in those lanes!  That's right a combine!  When was the last time any of you saw a combine driving on a major road in DC?  I am aware that this is common occurrence for this area, but seriously people that live here, when was the last time you saw a combine on Veterans?  At least there wasn't a head on it so you could get around it cautiously.  Or you could be like me and travel behind the combine since my turn was only two stop lights away.

In other news, we have a buyer for our place in Maryland.  Initial contract work has been completed.  We are hopefully going to be able to close by Thanksgiving.  Isn't that exciting!  Now we just got to find a place here.

Baby Girl continues to be active.  According to the good doctor, he estimates her to currently weigh around 5 pounds.  The expected delivery date still remains December 12/13 ish.  She smiled for the "camera" on Tuesday but the picture quality was not of the caliber we were used to, so we will likely not post it for your viewing pleasure.

A Traffic Report? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jessica
Thursday, 19 October 2006

This morning while getting ready I heard something that I hadn't heard in almost a week.  A Traffic Report!  Why?  Well, to inform people of a "mishap" (aka accident) at the intersection of Raab Rd and Airport Rd.  They mentioned in one more time during the 30 minute period of my getting ready.

Now most of you are prolly thinking to yourself, "Wow, Jess, that's not that big of a deal."  Well it is when you just moved from an area where there was a radio station (WTOP) that had news and traffics on the 8's.  That breaks down to 6 reports in an hour.  And on there website they have links to the traffic cameras in the area so you can see any and all congestion.

Don't misunderstand me.  I don't miss having to listen to a traffic report before going to my doctor's appointment to find out which way is the best way to go, it's just proof that you don't realize how nice life can be in a less metropolitan area.  That's all.....Okay, time to go wait for the cable person to come and hook up the cable.

As Damion stated yesterday, it feels good to be home.  It hasn't quite sunk in that we are here to stay and not here for just a couple of days.

This morning Damion left at 7:30 for his first day at work.  His commute is a whole eleven minutes.  Needless to say since he didn't need to be to work until 8:15 he stopped and got some coffee.  With this change Damion will have in essence an extra two and a half hours in his day because his total commute is 25 minutes and not 3 hours.  I'm excited about that.

What about me?  Well, here's the deal with me.  As you all know, I am currently 32 weeks pregnant.  Due to the move and several other factors, I am going to be able to stay at home to raise Baby Girl and take care of things on the home front.  It is definitely a major career change that I'm looking forward too.  So, today's list of activities includes getting ready at some point, getting some groceries (while we can try, we can not get by on Cheerios and English muffins and spaghetti alone), anxiously awaiting a call from our real estate agent in MD advising we have an acceptable offer and getting all better.  That's right.  Saturday afternoon I got a scratchy throat.  Damion said it was just the dry air.  Well, unfortunately he was not quite right.  (Note to readers - this is where I refer you to a previous post about the down side of pregnancy - no NyQuil.)

Everybody have a wonderful week.

That is so not fair.  I have been logged on for 40 minutes in an attempt to provide a properly date stamped countdown but instead of doing that I was being responsible (okay maybe more so distracted) and doing some things on line that are related to the countdown.  And WHOOOSH out of the other room Damion wakes up and posts.  That is sooo not fair!

3 DAYS!  Damion asked, "who's getting excited?"  I really think that the more appropriate question is Who IS excited?  ME!!!!!  I SOOO SCITED!  Oh, and prolly Dawn and Amy and Ben and well, a whole lot of other people.

Un rant related, today I am retiring from Corporate America.  Kind of freaky feeling.

Countdowns PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jessica
Tuesday, 03 October 2006

As you can see below Damion has started a countdown but isn't tell you what the countdown is for.  (Hehehehe a dangling preposition.)  I too have that countdown going, but also a couple of others, which I will tell you about.

The first one - 10 weeks!  So maybe this one is easy to guess.  That's right folks.  In approximately 10 weeks Dawn and Rob are going to have there birthdays!  Okay, while they are important people in the world of Damion and Jess, this year their birthdays are likely to be trumped because.....Baby Girl is supposed to make her grand entrance into the world in approximately 10 weeks.  See my most recent posting for more info.

The second countdown - 7 days.  That would be the number of business days that I have left working for a multi-billion dollar corporation.  Now if Damion wasn't in a NyQuil induced coma right now he'd probably say I was saying too much.  Well, oh well.

The third countdown - 1-2 days.  That is how many days until Damion is all better.

The fourth countdown - See Damion's.  It's got an awesomely exciting ending.....stay tuned.
