All better! (The truck is fixed)

it took a total of about 12 hours to completely remove the rear leaf springs and hangers from two trucks, then reinstall the springs and hanger onto my truck.  A big thanks goes out to Jess (for being a trooper and a good sport about the whole thing), my brother (for the shop, the parts, and the labor!), Adam (thanks for he 6'er, the labor, and genral hanging out...), and Nicole (for bringing food for all of us, woo hoo food!).

Now for the pictures...  but, you'll have to hit the "read more" link...

My Leaf Hangers Broke!
Repair - 1994 Ford F150
Written by Damion
Saturday, 12 April 2008

I was so intent on working on the problem that I forgot to get pictures of the one side, before I removed everything.  I'll try to get pictures today.  Here's the story...

I was driving to work and I hear a "thud".  The truck starts pulling to the left.  I pull over, thinking it's a blown tire, and I check all around the truck.  The tires are fine, but the bed is "listing" to one side.  I crawled under the truck and see that the leaf spring hanger is broken.  Horribly broken.  As it turns out, three of them were broken.  Once I got the truck to my brothers shop (a shop, a real shop!  Who knew?), further inspection revealed broken leaf springs, three broken spring hangers and two broken shackles.  I got lucky that no one (including myself) got hurt.

Turns out that my brother has a "donor truck" in the shop... hangers, shackles, and springs.  Crazy?  Yes.  So, it's just a simple matter of moving them from one truck to the other.  But, not really.  Ford actually rivets the hangers to the frame... so there's grinding and pounding and all that.  I spent a little over two hours working on the one side, and I got most of the brackets off and the springs out.  Hopefully I'll make it quite a bit farther today...

I'll try to remember to take pictures!

It's been a while since I posted anything about the motorcycles... let's bring everyone up to speed, shall we?

I've got a 1974 Honda CB750 that is a bunch of parts (but some day...)
Also, I've got a 1973(?) Yamaha TX650 (Thanks Dad!) that I've had running, from time to time.  It's not road worthy yet.

84 YamahaI got an email from my Dad about the second motorcycle (1984 Yamaha) that I've mentioned in the past...  and I've got a picture of it.  That's my Dad standing next to it.  I know it's a small picture, but I'm happy it was attached to the email.  It looks fantastic from the picture...  and that's the first I've seen of it.  From the looks of it, that's going to be my primary motorcycle frame and what not.  Dad did say that the engine on the one I have is the better one, so I will probably swap the engines in the frame (that's what Adam's help is for!).  Either way, the email said "soon".  Giggle giggle... or gego, gego if your Anna...

Hiking in Tucson (Again)
General Items
Written by Damion
Thursday, 03 April 2008

This is my third time in Tucson (Tuk-sun, if your Jess). I've got to admit that while I dislike being away from Jess and the kids... I like Tucson. Correction, I like the area around Tucson because I get to go play! I like climbing rocks, I like hiking, and here I get to do both. So, after working a full day at a construction site doing infrastructure install (racks and stuff), I came back to the hotel, worked on some issues back at Corp HQ, and then decided to go hike in the desert! Jess and I talked about this and decided that it was a dumb idea, but that it's totally me. I don't know quite how to take that.

Regardless, I took a few pictures. No movies, though. Nevermind about the hair, it was in a hard hat all day while I was running around at a constuction site.

I also put togther a google map of the my hike in the area. I noted the end of the hike, but for some reason the terrain makes me think went farther.

Jess and I just finished up watching season three on DVD, so we are ready to go.  This time, we've got the DVR setup, and hopefully... the kids will let us watch it!  Is your DVR setup? If not, on Saturday you'll be saing "What the Frak!  I missed it!"
