Rain Debates & Drum Skills
General Items
Written by Jessica
Thursday, 20 August 2009

Once again I’d like to share with all of those DamionAndJess.com fans more cuteness from our kids.

This weekend it was raining.  Anna asked Damion where the rain came from.  Damion responded by explaining the rain cycle to her.  She humored him by listening and then rolled her eyes up and put her finger to her mouth, a thinking type of look, and said, “Actually, God made the rain.”  Damion was speechless.  Fast forward to today I was driving with Anna, Jack, Connor and Erin in the van during a torrential downpour.  Anna asked where the rain came from.  I said “I thought you and Daddy talked about that.”  She said, “Oh, right.  God did it.”  Erin chimed in saying that rain actually came from the rain clouds but after she thought about it she said, “I guess God must put the rain in the clouds.”  For a moment I thought Anna (2 ½ yrs old) & Erin (6 yrs old) were going to get in a theological debate about the source of rain/water.

I truly think Jack is on his way to being a drum playing football player (speaking of football, what the heck is up with Favre unretiring AGAIN?!?!).  On August 9th, Damion set Jack up on the floor with two drums and a xylophone.  Jack happily played and did his beat count outs before starting but one of the best things caught on video was Jack said his first sentence!

Let's Go For A Swim!
Stuff and Things
Written by Jessica
Monday, 10 August 2009

One might think that it being August and all we’d have swimming suits for our kids by now.  Well, we do as of yesterday.  It had been so cool this summer that going to the pool wasn’t really necessary and on the warmer days we put them in swimmers and turned the sprinkler on in the backyard.

Last weekend though we got a gym membership at a facility that has three pools that we needed to take advantage of as a family.  One of the pools is for lap swims, another for swim & water classes & general fun and then a baby pool).  We spent yesterday purchasing suits for both of the kids.  We found a cute one for Jack at the first store and an adorable one for Anna at the third store, not too bad of luck if you ask me, especially since the second store was Toys R Us and we were actually there for toys.  Best thing is that the suits were both half price due to end of season sales!

Busy Little Kids
Updates
Written by Jessica
Thursday, 30 July 2009

First off, please note that this is the second of two updates for the night.....guess who's feeling talkative tonight.

The kids have been busy little kids.

During the week you can find us out in the backyard where Anna may perform a concert for you while Jack plays with his lawn mower. Or you may find them both in the dirt pit. Or Anna may be bringing me a container of dirt (aka green seed or hot chocolate or dirt seed) while Jack is playing with a bike. Or both kids could be pulling the hose out and working on turning it on.

Jack has been perfecting his grins over the last week. He makes this big grin that results in his eyes being closed and depending on the day he may even dance around in a circle. Jack is also a lover of dirt. Have I mentioned that yet at D&J.com? There is an area under the deck of the playset that has a dirt pit that he could spend hours playing in....and he has. After playing in the dirt his pants are brown, his shirt is brown and his face has a dirt smile on it....literally a dirt smile. He puts dirt in a cup and acts as though he is going to drink it but he doesn't but still gets a ring around his mouth.

Anna has been perfecting her language skills. The other day she has Damion's belt on around her waist with a stopper from Starbucks poked through one of the holes. She was holding the stopper/belt out in front of her and looked like she had a small sword in hand. She said “I Captain Anna”. I asked “Are you sure you're not Pirate Anna.” Anna paused, looked at me confused and said, “I don't understand those words.” I was really caught off guard by this statement and all I could do was simply praise her for that well phrased statement of fact.

Starting Kids' Clubhouse
Clubhouse
Written by Jessica
Thursday, 30 July 2009

Damion & I were talking about a clubhouse for the kids. Anna was obviously for this addition to the backyard. A couple of nights later at dinner Damion was talking about his plans for his office shed to which Anna said, “No! No! Clubhouse first. Clubhouse FIRST!” To bad she doesn't know what she wants, eh?

A couple of weekends ago a guy in the neighborhood threw out some wood (looked like he got rid of some garage shelving). Damion & Anna went and picked up a bunch of wood. That night we started building the kids' clubhouse . By the end of the night the house was framed and had three walls. We moved it to the backyard (nothing like saying hi to your neighbor at 10 pm as he's leaving the house and you're carrying a clubhouse) .

The next morning Anna was excited to see it and Jack ran toward it but got distracted by his lawn mower. Problem was there were crickets in the clubhouse. Anna DOES NOT like bugs and would not step foot in it. That night it was relocated and the next day she was willing to sit in it.

The other night Damion & I started to build the floor for the clubhouse. This afternoon Damion left work earlier to finish the floor/decking. With some “help” from the kids and a quick trip to Menards (slight miscalculation for determining the amount of decking needed) the clubhouse is now level and secured to the decking and lattice is up to prevent something or somebody from crawling under it.

Stay tuned for status updates and more pictures will be posted as the clubhouse progresses. Oh and while you're looking at pictures of the clubhouse don't forget to look the fun pictures of Damion playing with the marching band set he got Anna & Jack.

Is this summer going fast for anybody else?
Stuff and Things
Written by Jessica
Wednesday, 15 July 2009

My computer just registered the fact that it is now Wednesday, July 15.  So let me start off by wishing Mom a happy birthday……HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

July is half over and I think we’ve spent half of those days outside playing either at home or a park and the other half wishing it would stop raining or that the sun would dry the ground quicker.

After over two and half years we are finally starting to remodel the house.  First task was replacing the front window.  This is the one task that we actually paid somebody to do for us.  The funny thing was that they took out the window leaving this big opening to the outside but whenever the guys came in or went out they kept closing the door behind them……Think about….Pretty funny don’t ya think?!

Next task is repainting the upstairs living room.  Test patches confirmed the need to prime the walls.  We have 5 gallons of primer, new rollers and brushes so maybe tomorrow night we’ll get started on that.  The color of choice for that room is “Seed”.  What’s it like?  A light light green.

If you haven’t noticed yet, double clicky your way over to the gallery and enjoy the couple of pictures we already have posted for this month.  For a change I’m putting them up close to real time….don’t get used to this though.
